Fixed: Cloned Hard Drive or SSD Won’t Boot

Here select the hard drive you have just prepared and click Next to go on. Note that all data if there is any on this disk will be destroyed. Once you have made the backup in advance, you can click Yes to continue.

Step 3. Then review the changes to be made on the target disk. Or, if you are not satisfied with the partition layout, make your own changes.

Step 4. View the tip on how to boot from the target disk and click Finish. Step 5. In the disk map area, you can preview the changes that will take effect on the target disk. Finally, don't forget to press Apply on the toolbar. This operation will bring a system reboot. Please save your files and close all the running programs.

Then go to BIOS setup and boot your computer from the target drive. Your computer should be normally booted now. Share this useful software with more friends. Dissimilar hardware is the main reason that is responsible for cloned drive will not boot.

In such case, the best choice here is to use MiniTool ShadowMaker. Some of you might have already known that MiniTool ShadowMaker is professional Windows backup software that is most frequently used to create scheduled system backup, disk backup, and file backup. In fact, MiniTool ShadowMaker also works well when it comes to cloning system disk and makes it bootable on computers with dissimilar hardware. However, you do have the chance to complete this task by using the day free trial edition.

Run this Windows disk cloning software. When you are asked to choose a computer to manage, you just need to select This Computer to connect. Next, you need to enter the Source tab to choose the system disk and then enter the Destination tab to select the target disk.

When you click OK to continue, you will be prompted that data on the target disk will be destroyed. Click Yes to continue. The copy process begins. Apparently, not in current win10? Also, I have old E: and F: drives with active partitions with windows installed, but no longer ever used, except for data storage. Could these interfere? Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply? Thanks for your feedback, it helps us improve the site. Jim - You do not have to buy Macrium. I explained that the Boot Corrector on their rescue media flash stick you can make off the app will fix any disk problems.

I gave you tutorials on creating and using the flash stick to correct boot problems. Can you boot into Macrium and take a picture of the drive map showing all partitions listings to post back? Then run the Boot Corrector as shown in my first post which is like Startup Repair on steroids and has successfully corrected the few boot problems I've ever seen with Macrium. That's strange. It is booted into your old Samsung C drive but using the System Reserved partition on the Sandisk drive to boot it.

How do we know this? Because the System label on the Sandisk System Reserved only appears because it is the partition booting C, and C is always the booted Windows drive. This is likely due to Samsung remaining plugged in. Sandisk's working System Reserved partition should boot D once you unplug Samsung and the other drives.

If you are saying D doesn't have Boot Manager installed because it is not labeled Boot, that Boot label only means the partition presently booted. Did you try unplugging all other drives to try to boot the new Sandisk? Please try that next and if it doesn't start, boot into the Macrium Rescue Media to run Boot Corrector which will get it fixed and started.

Step 1. Connect the SSD to your computer and make sure it can be detected. Step 4. Here you will move to the final page. While cloning a hard drive to SSD has some significant benefits, many users also encounter the problem of the cloned SSD not booting. In that case, using effective HDD to SSD cloning software may be a more efficient option than troubleshooting errors one by one. Moreover, it allows you to further accelerate the reading and writing speed of SSD disk as well as prolong its lifespan.

You could download it and try it by yourself. Do you need any more help?
